We are the Hirsch family: Stefan, Ute, Nyala, Nicholas, Robin and Hero. For nine years before starting Rainbow Safari we lived in Singapore. The three younger kids were born there and feel as attached or perhaps more so to Singapore as they do to our original home, Germany. 

Used to and comfortable in the tropics and Southeast Asia specifically, it made sense to start our journey here. It was still quite a hard transition from a nice (steady, as in not rolling in the waves) apartment, excellent schools, an exciting career, friends, creature comfort to the life of a modern day sea nomad. Not that we are entirely roughing it on Rainbow Safari (see Our Boat section).  

We left our prior life to spend time together as a family, to learn and explore our planet, and to be in closer touch with nature. Since starting Rainbow Safari we have seen places that we never thought we would see, we have met new friends, we have seen more sunrises and sunsets, we are continuously learning, and we have spent almost every day and every hour together.
